Belgian Tripel – Home Brew!

October 19, 2015 by rachelle 22 Comments

OMG!  We finally brewed and the beer is ready for consumption!  Woo-hoo!

Clearly, I was consuming this one with my lipstick marks on the glass.  Sorry!  I couldn’t help it.  We were tasting it and I just got so excited that we finally had some homebrew and I wanted to share!

We also brewed a Kolsch and took both kegs to a getaway in the North Carolina mountains this weekend.

Both were a hit!  We rented a house with some friends and drove around doing the dorky look at the leaves touristy thing.

I’m not a fan of sharing personal space and my biggest fear on this trip was having to share a bathroom with someone other than my husband.  When we showed up and were told that our bedroom was the pull out sofa bed in the living room I threw a hissy fit and nearly had a heart attack calmly voiced my objections and we were relocated to a better, but not ideal sleeping situation.  Needless to say, there was a bunch of Belgian Tripel involved the first night.  In preparation for the second night, Chris took me to my mother ship….

I had a great time, but I’m happy to be home and there are a bunch of reasons that we are drinking beer on a Monday morning.  I’m so glad I had the good judgment to take a Monday vacation day. Because next time? I need my own house. Cheers!

P.S. Be sure to come back and visit tomorrow – there’s something special happening….

P.S.S. I took 537 photos this weekend and plan to share after I can sort them out.  The NC mountains are beautiful in October!

My family are from Belgium, so I practically grew up on Belgian beer and I love the stuff.

Yay for beer, vacation and a gazillion photos! Boo to sleeping on a pull out sofa in the living room! I totally would have had the same reaction as you… ummm NOT happening! This baby needs a bedROOM! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us tomorrow! P.s. what mountain did you go to? Boy and I are trying to plan a vacay in December or January somewhere. We looked at sugar top and beach mountain. Any suggestions? P.s.s. feel free to send some of your brew my way. XO

Dude, you have no idea the extent of my dramatic horrified reaction. There were many tears and much teeth gnashing. I looked for a hotel and there was NOTHING within a 45 mile radius! We went to Banner Elk – home of the Wooly Worm Festival – more on that later. It’s near Sugar Mountain and Boone. I know you are new to the N to the C, so I’ll tell you that Boone is a college town (home to App State) and is totally crowded when there is a home game. I personally prefer Asheville to most of the places in the NC mountains that I’ve been to. TONS of breweries and there is a really cool glass blowing studio near Wedge Brewery. You could just come to Charlotte and drink my beer! We’ve got a pumpking coming soon! 🙂

Hahaha! If I had homemade beer and were moved to the ‘Wine Villa’, I too would be drinking a lot that night 😉 My husband actually just got back form Belgian yesterday! He said he was at the airport at 6am and the airport bars were already packed with people drinking beer! My kinda people 😉

Oh man, you’re just making me jealous talking about the North Carolina mountains in October. That’s seriously one of the best months down there!! And this beer? I’m a huge fan of Belgian tripels…although I’ve never had a home brew version. Guess you’ll just need to drive me a keg up to New York now. 🙂 Seriously though…love it!

Lol! I can only imagine your reaction, it was probably close to what mine would be if I were in that situation. We rented a condo in Vail when Alex was around seven and it was not what it was advertised to be. The kids had to sleep on a rickety sofa bed in the living room, and at seven years old, Alex said with tears in her eyes, “This place is a DUMP!” We knew we were in trouble. 🙂

So cool that you make your own beer. It looks delicious.

Girl, I think my head almost exploded! Poor Alex! To have to experience a DUMP vacation condo at SEVEN! At least it’s all an improvement from there, right? And my beer is totally mind-blowing! Come on over and have some! 🙂 I have a guest room with a door and a bed! LOL!
